Bake a Cake!

Things have been hectic here at the shoebox these past few weeks. The stresses of daily life, running a business in this economy recession, trying to be supportive to hubs, trying to stay focused on God's good plan (Jeremiah 29:11), and remain fun during the summer for my kids has been a challenge for me lately. But...I baked a cake! Suddenly, things were different...

How could the smile on this face not lift me up? Sometimes I'm so caught up in the things that do not matter in the grand scheme of things, that I miss the blessings right in front of me. There are many things on this earth that we cannot control, and those things far out number what we can! We can control our attitudes, our smile, the way we treat others, and the kind of mother we will be in the midst of stormy weathers. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philppians 4:13), and through Him, I will focus on "baking a cake"!

The day we baked this was a pretty rotten day (in the adult world here), but my sweet boy didn't think so! I can only hope and pray that the memories my children have are those that bring a smile to their face, and I pray that God will remove any memory that doesn't from their precious mind! I want to take the time to slow down and take hold of every moment I have with them.

As moms and wives we have a big task on our hands to make our home a refuge and safe place for our husbands and children. Proverbs 14:1 says that "A wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.". Isn't that the truth?! If I'm stressed or freaking out(this happens!), then my whole house feels sad. When I allow God to strengthen me through Christ to keep things happy even when I'm not, everyone here stays happy. It's kind of cool to have this supernatural mommy power, but it's a HUGE responsiblitly, and I want to take it more seriously. A good attitude seems like a small price to pay for a happy home! My prayer today is that I would laugh, smile, listen to my kids when their talking about something I don't care about, be there for my hubs when he gets home after a long day, play in the pool (thanks mom!), and have a good time today with some friends and family. Enjoy life more, and fully rely on Him who knows the plan!

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"
 Jeremiah 29:11

In from the LBS enjoyed visiting your site, and will definitely be back.

You know, sometimes in life all we can do is bake a cake, or sing a song or write a story. Children are subjected to enough and while we can't shelter them from everything, we can love them and protect them. They are meant to be young and innocent.

Really enjoyed your post. And yes, when you can see a smile like that it's ten times harder for a bad day drag you down.

All the best,
