My most recent total #momfail!

We have bobcats! Yup, you heard me. Bobcats!

We've tried to capture some pictures of these scary felines, but no success so far. So, as always, Google comes through for me.

If this isn't a picture of our bobcat, it must be his twin. The cat we've been seeing looks exactly like this!

So what's the #momfail? It went something like this.

My story takes place before I was aware of this natural threat we have prowling around the yard.

My husband came running in from the grill the other night screaming and yelling about seeing a bobcat.
Babe, I saw a bobcat! Get the camera!

He proceeds to tell me all about this " wild cat" that "must have been 3 feet tall"!
Um, no. I will NOT run and get the camera and come outside. Thanks, anyway.

In all of the commotion my youngest runs in to hear more of Daddy's exciting story.
Mom! I told you I saw a giant cat! Remember??

I, of course, do not remember.
What?

He starts recalling a very long and detailed story to my husband and I in which he told me all about the "half cheetah-half cat" he saw in the back yard.
Remember mom? I asked you, "what's half cheetah and half cat", and you said there was no such thing. You said that was impossible, and I told you I saw a half cheetah-half cat out your window walking on the wall.

Really?
Yeah, but you didn't believe me so I went outside to try to find it.

What?!
Yeah, Dad! I told her I saw one, but she wasn't listening or something. When I saw the big cat out your window, I tried to find it outside. I walked out the garage around back and looked around for it.

You walked around outside looking for a giant wild cat as big as you are, and I didn't even know it?
Yup. But, I couldn't find it, so I came back in.

Ok, let's make sure you're keeping up. My 6 year tried to tell me about a bobcat. I blew him off, DO NOT remember anything about his story, and apparently he leaves the house to hunt for wild animals without me even knowing. Got it?

Perhaps I had too much to drink that day? <=KIDDING! C'mon. Totally kidding!
For anyone that read yesterday's post, perhaps you got a laugh?

So, to sum up.
I'm a terrible mom because I do not listen to my children, and I let my kids hunt bobcats unsupervised.

There you have it.

Total #momfail!

*Bad Mom Disclaimer: My 6 year old never stops talking. Never. I would be some kind of alien if I could actually keep up with and comprehend everything he tells me from the time he wakes up until he passes out at night. I guess sometimes, I'm not listening.

Geesh! I do feel bad.

I cannot even tell you how much my husband is ragging on me for this one.

We've since researched the whole bobcat thing, and I guess they are residents of this area. Who knew? Bobcats at the beach? They are not endangered, but animal control will not move them, as this is their natural habitat. They really appear to be more scared of us, then we are of them. But, I also don't think it's a great idea if my son goes hunting alone.

Moral of this story: When you are not listening-you should be. Your kids could be hunting wild animals that might eat them.

That sounds a little scary, it's a good thing he wasn't hurt. Although, I think most mothers of 6 year old will tell you they only listen to about 1/4 of what is being said.

I love this story. So much. I love that he said it was a half-cheetah half-cat.

LMAO!!!

I've been guilty of uh-huhing my kids when I really should have paid more attention.

When we were little- my baby brother not quite 2, he was pointing out the window saying "Big bow-wow" My mom thought it was one of the neighbor's dogs in our yard.

It was a BUFFALO.

That had escaped from the zoo.

On the other hand, that is SCARY!!! I would be freaking out and never letting my kids out of the house again!! haha!

Hope all is well around there now!

I did something very similar. Everyone in the neighborhood got to see him but me. I did see the deer he was stalking a couple of times, though. My daughters were not going to try to get a better look.

Hopefully, your excellent post will educate the rest of the moms so that no boys get eaten by big cats in the yard.

It totally sounds like something I would do; tuning my kids out sometimes is a survival skill.
You should link up your post on my blog today!

Love this post - as much as it's a mom fail you can rest assured that we all have mom fails - but you get big points for including a wild animal in yours :)

Adrienne, I'm sorry I haven't been here for so long. From the last post Sara wrote in August, and the subsequent posts by her friends, I could read the handwriting on the wall. I've been thinking only of her, and reading only her blog. And now Sara has gone home to be with God and I’m now just beginning to breathe again and starting to get back to reading the blogs I heart – and I heart YOURS! And today I have to tell you this - You are a full of awesome mom - and this ---- the only moms who worry they aren't good enough are the moms who actually ARE. I've read you for a long time now - nearly a year - I've read your fails – and seen your love for your babies - you are a full of awesome mom. And you can't possibly listen to everything your six-year-old is saying – because as you say – the words never end. And if my six-year-old would tell me that there was a cat outside she was hunting – a big cat – I think I'd let that go too – because Laska the love Kitty is getting bigger all the time – and I could see some child saying that about him. I also read the above post about your weight loss – good for you – good for you doing it the right way – it makes me happy. I didn't comment there because I'm a guy – I should keep all of my weight related comments to pudgy little self. I'm learning ツ Anyway, I heart reading you, God bless and keep you Adrienne.
